The Learning Environment

Our Philosophy Statement

(Focus is on the Whole Child)

Our educational philosophy is strongly influenced by the Early Years Learning Framework, “Belonging, Becoming and Being” and the principles of the National Quality Framework. It reflects a shared understanding of the role of the kindergarten with children, families, and the community.

CHILDREN

  • Each child has the right to quality education and care.
  • Children have individual needs.
  • Children are connected to family, community, culture and place.
  • Every child is a unique individual.
  • Children are capable and competent.
  • The most powerful way that children learn is through play and through relationships.
  • Children need the opportunity to develop life skills which will enable them to thrive in an ever-changing world.

Our open-ended play-based curriculum will allow for independent choices and individual development, where children can discover for themselves and practise skills in authentic situations.

Learning experiences will be interesting, inviting and challenging, allowing children to build on existing knowledge and discover new learning, maximizing literacy and numeracy outcomes.

To achieve this STAFF will:

  • Guide the children by providing access to information.
  • Instill a love of learning in the children.
  • Help children to develop a deep love and respect for themselves, others and their environment.
  • Be sensitive of each child’s circumstance and needs.
  • Assess and support the individual learning, development and level of wellbeing of children through interaction, observation and record keeping.
  • Allow children to reflect on their learning by sharing their experiences with others.
  • Create a rich environment where children can immerse themselves in open-ended play-based learning to develop and deepen their understanding through hands-on activities.
